▍Medical assistive device precautions-Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs are an important means of getting around for people who have mobility issues. They not only make taking care of such individuals easier for family members, but also enable users to participate in daily activities and exercise. However, when using a wheelchair several precautions should be taken.
•When crossing steps or uneven ground first push the front wheels on either side to the edge of the step, gently lift the front wheels and place them on the step, push forward until the back wheels on either side touch the edge of the step and roll the rear wheels up the step, to avoid tipping the wheelchair over.
•When a wheelchair stops on a slope the left and right brakes should be pressed simultaneously. The brakes, brake lines and brake pads should be checked daily to avoid malfunctioning and accidents.
•Wheelchair footrests should be regularly inspected to prevent them becoming loose or damaged, leading to an accident when the user is moving or sitting in the chair, thereby ensuring comfort and safety.
