▍Zero tolerance for the illegal hunting and killing of animals
Recently a Vietnamese foreign worker was caught illegally selling dog meat in Taichung. Knives, scales and what appeared to be the carcasses of protected animals were found at the scene. Some of the dog meat contained tracker chips, confirming these were pets that went missing
Profits from the black-market dog-catching business are believed to be as high as NT$20 million
•Methods used to catch/kill these animals include the setting of traps and use of drugs which are clearly illegal. Anyone found selling or in possession of the carcass of a killed animal can be prosecuted
•Suspects often use their status as foreign nationals to evade investigation. Animal rights groups have urged the central government to amend the law as soon as possible, to remove loopholes and prevent such tragedies from reoccurring
Remember
It is the shared responsibility of society to protect all life. Refuse to engage in illegal transactions and stop the killing of innocent animals
