▍Only legal modifications can be made to motorbikes
Many vehicle owners modify their motorbikes to reflect their personal style. However, as modified parts come from a wide range of sources, failure to follow inspections and alteration registration regulations can mean the modifications made are illegal, which may adversely impact driving safety and lead to fines.
Modifications must comply with regulations and be undertaken by licensed businesses. Owners are required to present invoices for modified equipment to the motor vehicles office to complete inspection and registration changes. For example, changes in vehicle color or lights are legal if properly registered.
Anyone who alters the exhaust system or removes the muffler without authorization, can be penalized. In serious cases, individuals can be required to undergo a mandatory inspection and ordered to restore the vehicle to its original factory specifications. Fines can exceed NT$6,000.
